The Internet Cat Video Film Festival – Yeah, Really.
Yep, it’s real.
Let’s break this down for a second. ‘The Internet Cat Video’ – ok, we’ve all seen those; the cat playing the piano, the kitten chasing the tinsel on a stick, the stalking cat. But then, ‘Film Festival’. There is to be a festival with the sole intention and purpose of celebrating the internet phenomenon of funny cat videos. The festival is due to take place on 30th August in Walker Open Field, Minneapolis (if you happen to be rather conveniently free on that day).
Now, I know most of our readers are from the United States, but guys, seriously, a festival dedicated to cat videos?!

The event has been described as a chance for people to come together and “LOL in the presence of others”. Oh, come on! There is a deadline of July 30th by when ‘fans’ must have nominated their favourite clips on the rather comically amateur Nomination Form. Maybe I’m sceptical; but if you would like to nominate your favourite clip, you can do so here. I, for one, will not be.
As I read various articles published across the internet today, I cant help but kind of cringe at some of the things people say. For example, the BBC have said, ‘While dogs have enjoyed considerable viral success some say cats rule the internet’. Now cats rule the internet. Or how about, ‘They’ve [Dogs have] been busy chasing sticks – but the cats have been at the forefront of the cultural movement’. So, not only do cats ‘rule the internet’, their videos have become part of a ‘cultural movement’. Lets take a second here.
A cultural movement. Cat videos? A cat playing a piano?
Ok, I’m ranting. Sorry. I’ll be honest – cat videos are funny; nobody can deny that. In fact, I think the Stalking Cat video is brilliant. So much so, that I’m going to embed it at the end of this post so we can all enjoy it at least one more time.
What more can I say? I’m sure that after this event, we will be writing about it. Maybe it will be on international news? I can only hope they hire the best in crowd control safety as this festival will be manic!
